Taking on an abandoned house is a big project no matter how you look at it. But how do you assess where the line is between charming decay and hopelessly dilapidated?

In this digital lecture, an introduction is given on how to assess whether an older house is worth saving. It goes through what to look for on a first visit, what damages are common when houses have been empty for a long time, and what can actually be remedied – as well as when it might be wise to think again before investing time and money.

The speaker is builder Nisse Nilsson from Ni & Wi Timber and Roof in Örkelljunga, with extensive experience in building preservation and assessing older houses. The lecture gives you, as a layperson, a better understanding of what to look for when visiting an old or abandoned house you are considering saving, so you can independently assess whether it is worth bringing in a qualified craftsman to help with a complete action plan.

Installing an individual sewage system is often a significant investment that is beneficial to include in a potential loan promise, therefore it is wise to acquire the knowledge early.
