NOTE: This workshop has been moved to Saturday, August 29.
When you are faced with renovating an abandoned or old house, you take on a house where many lives have been lived – and many layers of paint have been applied to the walls. The old traditional colors that were used in the past are now making a strong comeback due to their good qualities and environmentally friendly, simple composition. But before you start painting, you need to know what type of paint is already on the wall, and then which type of paint is suitable where.
In this workshop, led by Maria Attström from the company Econyans, you will learn how to work practically with several traditional types of paint and techniques. We will go through how to examine existing surfaces, choose the right paint for the right substrate, and build sustainable, beautiful results that interact with the house's history.
Participants will learn:
- How to analyze old paint layers
- How to choose paint for different surfaces and purposes
- Basic theory about common traditional paints – materials, properties, areas of use, as well as advantages and disadvantages
We will get to try painting with linseed oil paint, distemper, glue paint, and egg yolk tempera.
We will also go through brushes and tools, so that you gain a better understanding of what suits different techniques.
