Saturday, August 29 we organized a workshop in traditional color and painting techniques as part of our project Find Home in My Northwest. The workshop leader was Maria Attström from Econyans, with over 20 years of experience working with traditional color. Despite a few rain showers, it turned out to be an interesting and informative afternoon.
Participants learned various tricks on how to determine what color is on a wall, how difficult it can actually be, and which colors are suitable for different surfaces and purposes. They also got to see and try working with, among other things, egg oil tempera, clay paint, and lime paint.
We were particularly happy to hold the workshop at Holma Folk High School in Höör, as they are active with the leader project Between the Lines – small-scale agroforestry for sustainable food production. The workshop was organized as part of our project Find Home in My Northwest, with the aim of raising awareness about sustainable renovation of abandoned houses. Buying an abandoned house is really just the beginning. After that, many years of work with will, effort, and perseverance await to transform the house into a home. Therefore, we want to help people along the way by conveying useful knowledge. We also want to convey that they are not alone in their dream and belief that a wreck is something worth preserving, but share it with many. This workshop is a small part of that work, and we thank Maria Attström for an interesting and fun afternoon.
