wood gas

– local energy solution for community preparedness

The project develops a prototype of a movable EenergyBtoolsCcontainer that produces both electricity and heat from Swedish forest raw materials. The initiative combines sustainable energy supply, reuse, and local preparedness in a flexible solution for both everyday life and crises.

”With local raw materials, reuse, and innovative technology, we want to create an energy solution that strengthens both the sustainability of everyday life and the community's preparedness.”

About the project

The project aims to develop a Energy Preparedness Container (EBC) – a compact and movable energy bank that produces both electricity and heat using wood gas from firewood. The solution is intended to be used both in everyday life and in situations where access to energy is limited, for example during natural disasters, blockades, or other societal disruptions.

The EBC combines several sustainable technologies and resources. The system includes heat storage in reused accumulator tanks, energy storage in reused electric car batteries, and solar panels that complement the energy supply. The unit can be connected to properties to deliver electricity, hot water, and heat, but can also be moved to locations where temporary energy needs arise.

During the project, the prototype will be tested in continuous operation for about a year to evaluate functionality, efficiency, and flexibility. The experiences will be compiled in a report that describes energy performance, material choices, and the possibilities for further development and dissemination of the solution. The goal is to contribute to increased local energy preparedness and demonstrate how reuse and local resources can be used for the energy supply of the future.

Preparedness

The Energy Preparedness Container is designed to provide both electricity and heat during societal disruptions such as natural disasters, blockades, or war.

Reuse

The project is largely based on reuse through the use of, among other things, used accumulator tanks and reused electric car batteries.

Flexible use

The movable solution can be used both at properties and in places with temporary needs for electricity and heat, such as construction sites.

Testing in real environments

The prototype will be tested in continuous operation for about twelve months to evaluate functionality, efficiency, and flexibility.
