How can a municipality act when a property owner of a neglected property cannot be reached? What applies if the owner lives abroad? How can one manage properties with many co-owners, old estates, or unclear ownership situations?
Around the country, there are houses that stand empty despite the fact that there are people who want to live there. For municipalities, vacant houses can mean both challenges and opportunities, but the path from empty property to new life is rarely simple.
The speaker is Madeleine Broddén, an experienced property lawyer with a background in the municipal sector, who regularly helps municipalities manage legal issues related to empty houses and abandoned properties in her work.
During the lecture, we will share common situations, legal conditions, creative solutions, and concrete examples of how to continue working when a house has been left unused for a long time, and where the owners are difficult or impossible to reach.
Questions that will be addressed:
- Property owners who are difficult to reach or live abroad
- Estates and complicated ownership structures
- The municipality's opportunities and limitations
- Experiences and lessons from real cases
The lecture is primarily aimed at officials within municipalities who in some way work with or are affected by uninhabited and neglected properties, but is also relevant for real estate agents, local associations, politicians, and private individuals who want to understand the legal issues that often arise around vacant houses.
