This page briefly describes the LAG-owned project Find Home in My Northwest, which aims to make use of the unused houses that exist in the countryside of our Leader area and give more people the chance to find a home. About the project
We want to give new life to unused houses in the countryside while creating opportunities for people with less capital to find a home. Through networks, workshops, and sustainable solutions, we will show that the Skåne countryside is an attractive and future-friendly place where resources are utilized.
The project aims to make use of the unused houses that exist in the countryside and give people with less capital the opportunity to find a home in the Skåne countryside. Although some smaller projects have been carried out in various municipalities, none in our Leader area have reached all the way. Now we want to map what has been done so far, what collaborations have been made, and what success factors and obstacles have been identified.
Our project targets three groups: land and property owners, people looking for housing in the countryside, and the municipalities. By building networks, we want to see the vacant houses as a resource for the countryside. We will hold workshops and lectures on building care, building regulations, law, financing, and sustainability.
We strive to develop a working method for how to reuse vacant houses while promoting the Skåne countryside as an attractive and sustainable place where resources are utilized.

”We have seen a variety of initiatives around vacant houses that we will learn from and develop the relevant parts.”

About the project
Abandoned buildings are a problem, whether they are in village environments or in the countryside. In some cases, they are empty for a reason, e.g., the landowner assesses that the site should be used for another purpose or that residents will be disturbed by the landowner's activities. But far too often, there are houses that can be saved and become new homes.
Another purpose is to raise awareness of how to take care of, maintain, and recycle old properties. Highlighting the vacant houses is
also a way to promote our rural areas and open up for new residents.
